A meat raffle is exactly what you might think – you buy a ticket for a chance to win fresh meat. It’s also a form of charitable gambling with the proceeds going to a variety of organizations, from veterans’ programs to youth hockey and soccer teams.
How does it work? There are usually several rounds. During each round, a limited number of tickets are sold, usually for a dollar apiece. A number caller spins a wheel and announces the winning number. If you win, just show your ticket and claim your tasty meat prize.
All types of meat are raffled off. The Chester Bird American Legion in Golden Valley, for example, gets their meat from Nelson’s Meat Market, Deli & Bakery in St. Louis Park and they always make sure to order a variety of options, like bacon-wrapped filet mignons and stuffed hens.
