Kayak the Creek
For a fun kayaking experience without any of the hassle, be sure to check out Kayak the Creek. KTC is a full-service company that rents kayaks, complete with paddles, life vests, and dry bags for phones and wallets, for parties of up to 7 kayakers for use on Minnehaha Creek. Travel through St. Louis Park and the neighboring suburbs. Kayaks will be dropped off at your desired launch point and picked up at the end of your 2.5 to 3-hour journey. Shoreside instruction is provided and guide service is available for an additional fee. Kayakers must be at least 12 with adult supervision. KTC is open May 1 through mid-October, Thursday through Sunday, as weather and stream conditions allow.
Minnehaha Creek Preserve
The Minnehaha Creek Preserve is the jewel of the Minnehaha Creek Greenway. This 1.5-mile stretch, which flows through St. Louis Park and is part of a larger 22-mile long system, has been recently restored, enhancing the wildlife habitat, restoring wetlands and adding new trails, including over a mile of ADA accessible boardwalk. You’ll find a canoe and kayak launch at Creekside Park, as well as place to picnic and plenty of free parking. As you paddle along, you’re sure to spot a variety of wildlife, including wood ducks, herons, turtles and deer. But be sure to check the Minnehaha Creek flow before putting in!
Sweeney Lake
Tucked inside a quaint residential neighborhood in Golden Valley, you’ll find Sweeney Lake. This 68-acre lake has an average depth of 12 ft, reaching 28 ft at its deepest point. Head to the north end of the lake where you’ll find a small parking lot with a dock and carry-in boat access. It’s a great spot for canoeing or kayaking, or even paddleboarding! And if you like fishing, the lake is stocked with a wide variety of fish, including largemouth bass, northern pike and yellow perch.
Westwood Hills Nature Center
Westwood Hills offers 160 acres of marsh, woods and restored prairie. Walk along the paved and natural trails to picturesque Westwood Lake. Rent a canoe from the Interpretive Center and glide across this 64-acre lake.

Hoigaard’s in St. Louis Park has everything you need for the perfect outing. Their Paddlesports Department rents canoes, kayaks and standup paddleboards on seasonal basis.
